The challenge
A client requested the help of Lubbers Global Freight for a project in Istanbul. The project involved the dismantling of a drilling rig on a drilling ship. For the dismantling of the drilling rig, the customer uses a large ring crane. This huge crane was transported in 'small' pieces to the harbour where the drilling vessel was moored.
99 containers with parts of the crane had to be transported from Kumport, Istanbul to Haydarpasa Port. At a later moment another 14 loads would follow. The challenge lay in the fact that all containers had to reach their final destination within three days. Furthermore, equipment had to be rented to put the big crane back together again.
Our solution
Our Global Freight department in Istanbul supplied 48 trucks that were continuously travelling back and forth with the crane parts. Since the crane also had to be reassembled at its final destination, our colleagues made sure that all the necessary equipment was present in the ports of Haydarpasa and Trabzon. Among other things, they arranged: crawler cranes of 200 and 300 tons, a mobile crane of 200 tons, cherry pickers, telehandlers and forklifts.
Results
The Lubbers Global Freight team had a deadline of three days to get the cargo to its final destination. That was a challenge, but still the team managed to deliver all containers to the final location within 24 hours. The convoy of trucks made the transport an impressive event.
